President Donald Trump said he plans to hold a news conference Thursday to discuss a “major trade deal with representatives of a big, and highly respected, country.” New York Times reports the deal will be with Britain. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell made clear he won’t be rushed into lowering borrowing costs until there’s more certainty on the direction of trade policy, which will have to come from the White House. President Donald Trump said he’s unwilling to preemptively lower tariffs on China in order to unlock more substantive negotiations with Beijing on trade. President Xi Jinping’s government provided a jolt to China’s economy ahead of landmark trade talks with the US, with officials unveiling a range of policies designed to strengthen Beijing’s hand in negotiations
