Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda gave the yen a boost by clearly indicating his intention to continue raising the benchmark interest rate if the economy improves as expected Hedge funds are ramping up bets in die options market that the South Korean won will mirror the Taiwan dollar’s recent rally against the greenback. China’s industrial firms saw their profits increase at a faster pace in April, as a government trade-in program drove demand for manufactured products in the face of pressure from higher US tariffs. Japan lost its position as die world’s largest creditor nation for the first time in 34 years, despite posting a record amount of overseas assets.
