Morning Juice – US Session Prep (17th December)

Sentiment
The dollar climbed, boosted by higher Treasury yields, after US jobs data did nothing to alter expectations for further Fed interest rate cuts. Investors are looking forward to talks later in the day from Fed’s Waller, who is one of the front runners for the position.
Two-year Treasury yields rose 2bp to 3.50%, while the 10-year yield increased by the same amount to 4.17%.
America’s corporate landscape is adopting the same characteristic K-shape as the country’s consumer sector. Wall Street’s unwavering profit and stock gains are ignoring Main Street, where a rising number of small firms are failing.
Yields on Japan’s long-term bonds rose to multi-year highs in early December, indicating lacklustre investor demand amid concerns about rising government spending and the probability of an interest rate hike on December 19th.
