Japanese government bonds dropped on Tuesday as rising political risks reignited investor concerns over fiscal policy. The 30-year bond yield rose as much as 12 basis points to 3.52%, while 10-year bond futures fell as much as 71 ticks, as speculation grew that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi could dissolve parliament and call an election. Japan’s Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent shared concerns about the weakening yen during a bilateral meeting in Washington as the currency edged toward a key threshold where authorities have intervened in the past. Jeanine Pirro didn’t seek sign-off from her bosses at the Justice Department before subpoenaing the Federal Reserve and has no plans to back down from an investigation into Chairman Jerome Powell, according to a person familiar with the matter. Oil traded near the highest level since early December after US President Donald Trump said he is imposing a 25% tariff on goods from countries “doing business” with Iran after a wave of deadly unrest in the OPEC member.
