Japan’s five-year government bond auction drew weaker demand than its 12-month average. The bid-to-cover ratio was 3.08 compared with 3.17 at the last auction and a 12-month average of 3.54. The tail was 0.05 vs 0.04 at the prior sale. President Donald Trump said he would announce his nomination to replace Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell within “the next few weeks” despite the backlash over a Justice Department probe into the remodeling of the central bank’s headquarters that has threatened his ability to secure a confirmation. President Donald Trump dismissed Jamie Dimon’s criticism over the Justice Department probe into the Federal Reserve, saying the JPMorgan Chase & Co. chief executive officer was “wrong” to suggest he was undermining the independence of the central bank. Japan’s five-year government bond yield climbed to its highest since the tenor’s debut in 2000, as fiscal concerns deepened on Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s reported plans for a snap election.
