President Donald Trump insisted he does not plan to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell despite a Justice Department probe into the central bank’s renovation.
Hedge funds are ignoring yen intervention warnings and wagering in the currency option markets that it may fall toward 165 to a dollar before Japanese authorities step in Silver retreated sharply – after surging to a record high – as the US held off from imposing tariffs on imports of critical minerals. The white metal tumbled as much as 7.3%, while gold also dropped. Profit-taking may also be part of the decline in silver, after it surged more than 20% over the previous four sessions. President Donald Trump indicated that he might hold off on attacking Iran for now after saying he was reassured by sources “on the other side” that the government in Tehran would stop killing people involved in widespread protests.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called out excessive declines in South Korea’s won on Wednesday, offering rare verbal support to the currency as it slides toward its weakest since 2009.
