Morning Juice – US Session Prep (16th January)

Sentiment
The yen strengthened, trimming its third consecutive weekly decline, after Japan’s Finance Minister Katayama reiterated that all options, including direct currency intervention, remain on the table to address recent weakness. The US dollar slipped against most major currencies, while Treasury yields traded in a narrow range.

Katayama also said her understanding with the US Treasury secretary includes the possibility of currency intervention.

USD/JPY was up about 0.2% for the week, putting it on track for its longest run of weekly gains since September.
