Japan’s 30-year bond auction drew stronger demand than average, easing immediate concerns about longer-maturity debt going into a closely watched election that will determine the extent of fiscal spending. US President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping of China discussed trade and geopolitical flashpoints, including Taiwan, during a Wednesday call ahead of a planned face-to-face meeting in April. Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook said it’s essential the central bank maintain its credibility by returning inflation to target in the near future.
