Morning Juice – US Session Prep (28th April)

Seintment
The dollar strengthened against all of its Group-of-10 counterparts as Brent crude reached a three-week high above $111 per barrel. Treasury rates fell ahead of the sale of seven-year US notes. USD/JPY is steady at 159.48, having risen as much as 0.3% to 159.69 after the BOJ held its policy rate unchanged in a split decision. Technology companies led equity markets lower as fears about the massive investment in artificial intelligence resurfaced. Brent surged beyond $110 per barrel as the Strait of Hormuz remained closed. The Bank of Japan maintained its key interest rate steady in a 50-50 decision, raising the prospect of a June rise. However, the weak yen had only a temporary relief as Governor Kazuo Ueda expressed doubt on the economy’s prospects.
Inflation expectations among euro-area consumers rose sharply in March, a concerning indication for the European Central Bank as it examines the impact of the Iran war.
Trump met with his national security team to consider Iran’s proposal to halt a three-month-old war that has killed thousands of people in the Middle East and crippled energy supply.
