Sentiment
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer survived in post on Tuesday, clinging to clinging to power head of Charles Ill’s speech. Health Secretary Wes Streeting, seen as a potential successor to Starmer, is due to hold talks with the prime minister on Wednesday. Donald Trump touches down in Bejing Wednesday evening for a 36-hour summit with an emboldened Xi Jinping, just as his own hand is constrained by the conflict in Iran. Talks are set to focus on trade, tariffs, the self-ruled island of Taiwan as well as Iran. Oil steadied after rising almost 8% over the past three sessions as a resolution to the Middle East conflict remains elusive, with Iranian exports showing further strain from a US Naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Australia’s central bank faces pressure to raise interest rates further after the center-left government failed to put a deep enough dent in budget deficits through to the end of the decade, putting the burden on monetary policy to restrain inflation. The Trump administration is in the process of issuing more than $35.5 billion to importers who successfully filed for tariff refunds after the US Supreme Court found the president’s signature economic policy unlawful, according to a new court filing.
