Morning Juice – US Session Prep (19th June)
Seintment
Global equities finished the week on a softer note as the initial optimism around the US-Iran interim peace agreement gave way to a more cautious reassessment of how difficult a lasting settlement may be.
With US cash markets closed, futures slipped after a strong weekly run, while European stocks were flat and Asian equities edged lower from record highs. The delay to planned talks on a permanent agreement, following fresh clashes involving Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, shifted attention back toward the geopolitical risk that recent progress may prove fragile.
Oil reflected that uncertainty, with Brent hovering around $80 a barrel as traders weighed the outlook for energy supply and watched signs that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz may be slowing again after an initial rebound.
Bond markets were also in focus, especially in the UK, where gilts underperformed on renewed fiscal and political uncertainty. The broader takeaway is that markets are still balancing relief over easing energy disruption against the reality that turning an interim truce into a durable regional agreement remains far from straightforward.
