Morning Juice – US Session Prep (30th June)
Sentiment
US equity futures edged higher into the final day of the quarter, with the S&P 500 on track for its strongest quarter in six years. Futures pointed to a steady finish after the index climbed 14% since early April, while European stocks also moved higher and chipmakers helped lift Asian markets. The broader tone remains supported by expectations for another earnings season driven by AI investment, alongside a resilient macro backdrop and lower oil prices easing inflation concerns.
The dollar strengthened as the yen weakened beyond 162 per dollar, its softest level since 1986, raising the risk of possible intervention from Japanese authorities. At the same time, Brent slipped toward $73 a barrel as shipments through the Strait of Hormuz continued to recover and Morgan Stanley cut its oil price forecasts again, citing faster supply normalization, strong US production, and weak Chinese demand. Even so, markets are still watching Tuesday’s peace talks closely, with energy prices and Hormuz traffic remaining important for the inflation outlook and expectations that the Fed could still raise rates as soon as September.
