Rengo, Japan’s largest umbrella body for labour unions, will host a media conference on Friday. The association will provide reporters with a count of annual salary negotiations. Rengo stated last week that its affiliated unions wanted an average wage increase of 5.85%.

Expectations that the yen will beat its peers this year have all but gone, with strategists instead projecting the currency to end 2024 within a few percent of where it started.

Australia will deliver further cost-of-living relief to people battling with sticky inflation and high interest rates, while pushing for a second budget surplus to bolster fiscal buffers, Treasurer Jim Chalmers said.

Oil gained the most in roughly five weeks after US crude stockpiles fell and Ukraine raided another Russian refinery.
