Stocks Stall ahead of Inflation Prints – US Market Wrap
Wall Street began the week on a cautious note, with traders preparing for key inflation data that will shape Federal Reserve policy and global financial markets.
Stocks, bonds, and the dollar all made minor moves just a few days before the key consumer price index. The gauge is expected to show moderation while remaining too high to justify rate cuts. On Monday, a Federal Reserve Bank of New York survey revealed an increase in inflation expectations.
Before Wednesday’s CPI, economists will analyse producer price data on Tuesday to assess the impact of categories that feed into the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, the personal consumption expenditures price index. Jerome Powell, the Fed Chair, is also scheduled to speak on Tuesday.
