Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki says he’s highly concerned about the impact of quick and one-sided currency movements on the economy, and the government is observing FX events with a high level of urgency.

Inflation in Tokyo surged in June on the back of increasing energy prices, while industrial production grew more than predicted in May, presumably putting the Bank of Japan on track to contemplate raising interest rates as early as July.

The IMF stated Thursday that the US is running large deficits and is weighted down by too much debt, and it warned of the perils of more aggressive trade policies.
