As Bashar al-Assad fled to Moscow, looters began attacking the presidential palace, and thousands took to the streets of Damascus to celebrate his demise. The Syrian ruler had attempted to hold out until the final end, desperately issuing an SOS to anyone who would listen, including Donald Trump. The dictator had run out of road.

China’s consumer inflation fell in November, indicating that the government’s efforts to boost the economy and sentiment were unable to reverse the country’s sluggish demand.

Japan’s economy grew at a quicker rate than previously projected, showing further strength in the recovery as the central bank analyses data ahead of a policy decision later this month.

Over the weekend, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol narrowly avoided impeachment with a handful of votes. But pressure on him to step down is only rising.
