Sentiment
US equity futures fluctuated as investors paused their record-breaking rally. Bitcoin surpassed $100,000 after President-elect Donald Trump appointed a crypto proponent as the next head of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
French assets recovered slightly as investors considered the implications of Michel Bamier’s ouster.
S&P 500 contracts remained steady following the index’s 56th record close of 2024, which put it on track for its best year since 2019.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell boosted Wall Street sentiment by saying the US economy is in “remarkably good shape.”
The dollar and Treasuries were down.
The focus now shifts to today’s US jobless claims numbers, which come before key nonfarm payrolls data due Friday.
